Introduce Production
Advantage : The product relatively deep black levels, accurate in bright areas, solids dejudder development in standard mode controls numerous photos, many with four HDMI, two component video inputs and a PC. The image quality worthy of entry-level Sony 120Hz LCD with actually a very good value.
Disadvantage : Dark areas tinged bluish; must engage dejudder to enable antiblur; pedestrian design; less uniform screen.
Sony’s LCD HDTVs includes a range of many high-end models, but the KDL-V5100 is not among them. This series is cheaper than the Sony LCD HDTV in 2009 to include 120Hz frs, and lack of extras and interactive design complexity of his brothers step-up. This includes almost all controls associated with the image of these models, however, and its overall image quality is equally good. Of course, you'll still pay the premium brands to negotiate, but the solid performance and well balanced, the main features of the KDL-V5100 series to one of the most interesting values of Sony.
Design
Judge by the aspect of the KDL-46V5100 series, Sony does not give as much commitment to the outward appearance of its entry-level HDTV as it does to its high-end line, like the
KDL-XBR9 series. The KDL-46V5100 has a relatively stocky, square, glossy black around the screen, below is a black stripe that fades to a mirror finish, which provides a slight accent. The area below the display is further enlarged by the speaker horizontal bar with a matte black - contrary to popular speakers hidden on many other HDTVs. Sony included a match, the black square to stand, but not pivot.
In fact, we prefer the KDL-46V5100 for the smaller buttons on the remote control clicker included on many higher-end models from Sony. The middle slide is very important and surrounded by four buttons that are difficult to confuse - one of which is the important key to control of display format. A group of buttons at the top of the remote can control other equipment which is compatible with HDMI-CEC system control-HDMI scheme, but the remote can control other devices via infrared.
The menu system is also a refreshing, relatively simple society PS3 crossbar based media. All major categories, between image installation are arranged at the extreme left and remain visible no matter where you are on the menu. Nesting multiple menus is minimized happy, multi-selections on the screen simultaneously. We also appreciated the one-line description of menu functions other than those separated in the Tools menu, with easy access to frequently used items (even if the Motionflow control is unfortunately absent). On the other hand, the bookmarks bar for quick access to an entry last use input, the content channel or USB, it seems strange.
Features
As a cheaper Product line of Sony LCD HDTV, the 46V5100 series is free interactive gadgets available on the company step-up from the W5100 series. The W5100 with the main add-in is 120Hz processing, which provides better resolution of movement (aka less blur) when you starting setting dejudder Motionflow systems. Unlike Samsung and Toshiba systems, video processing, Sony can not be allow you obtained the effects antiblurring without dejudder setup. Check-out performance for more details.
Other controls are relatively large files to an entry-level model. Sony offers three ways to adjust the overall image and a fourth, called Custom, which is independent per input. A Theater menu on the remote puts the TV in the world cinema preset. In addition to the three color temperature settings, using all the white balance controls are available to customize the shades of grayscale.More advanced settings include various game modes and disable video processing, with extras such as Live Color doubtful, White and Clear Advanced Contrast Enhancer that we left for our consideration.
Regarding other features, the KDL-46V5100 offers four aspect ratio selections, including one called full pixel whose sources properly scales from 1080i and 1080p to fill the screen. Lack extras like picture in picture(PIP), but we made the screen as a practical support for the product, which includes phone numbers for customer service from Sony. We lost a one-touch power saving mode to reduce energy consumption. The menu includes an echo on / off / auto switch for the backlight, and a light sensor room setting.The OFF option is useful for people who just want the TV sound without a picture, and its use reduces the electrical power of 30 watts (half a standard bulb).
Connectivity on the KDL-46V5100 series is solid, if somewhat "unique". Sony has decided to put three of the four HDMI inputs - a very healthy - on the side rather than on the back. This makes it easy temporary connections, but the flip side, some users may be less comfortable with the wire left the party instead of the back. Sony has side panels that bay to accommodate all but the largest cable, though.

Performance
Relatively entry-level of Sony KDL-46V5100 series exhibited a very good image quality for the price, and and somehow beat the defending much more expensive, even if operating at full load,
KDL-XBR9 series (in fact, two received the same score in this sub). We appreciated its relatively deep black levels and accurate colors in light areas, but wished for better color accuracy in dark scenes and better uniformity across the screen. Sony is also far in its implementation of Samsung’s dejudder .
Adjusting the Sony KDL-46V5100 for best picture quality in our dark room at means a startup in Cinema mode, also accessible by pressing the theater menu. This method has come close to our ideal for calibration, although we have had to disable some picture editing to reduce the production of light for our nominal level of 40 FTL and make a few reddish of grayscale nearly to the standard. Finally, the adjustments were largely successful, although the grayscale too varied (in dark blue stain). Range in the solid state at 2.25 against the ideal of 2.2.
Black level: The KDL-46V5100 has been solid for an LCD in this class, but could not compete with most other displays in our comparison. In dark scenes, like the warehouse in Chapter 5, where Lawrence Fishburne work on cheater, black and almost-black as the letterbox above and below the image, the pillars in the foreground and background indentations appeared brighter and less realistic than the Samsung LNB750, JVC and plasma, and only a bit brighter than the
KDL-XBR9 - even though like to the
Samsung LNB650. Shadow detail, from material along the edges of the room to the stubble on the shady side of the Fishburne’s face, was pretty good.
Color accuracy: in the bright scene KDK-46V5100 obtained good results in this category, thanks to its grayscale and accurate primary and secondary colors. The face of Kate Bosworth in the hotel on moring in chapter 8, for example, have shown the naturally skin, without the light green that we saw on
KDL-XBR9 and Panasonic plasma. The headboard red, green plants and leaves of gold was also very close to the color of our reference screen, although the sky shots looked a little too blue compared side-by-Side - perhaps a less specific symptom of Sony’s cyan. aggregate saturation has been in the media, and do not exactly match the punch of more expensive models.
Video processing: As we said you must agree dejudder MotionFlow mode the KDL-46V5100 to get the benefits antiblurring its refresh rate of 120 Hz, but ensures that the usual effect on based films sources like "21 "makes them look more similar videos. We compared the standard mode of Sony, the least controversial of these two setup Motionflow our eye on the Samsung against Standard, like the past we loved the Sony's Standard better. A crane shot of the pedestrian bridge and in Chapter 6, for example, generally seemed too smooth on the Samsung than the Sony (and elsewhere on
KDL-XBR9 smoother than on the KDL-V5100). That said, the "beauty" of dejudder is certainly in the eye of the beholder, and we prefer Samsung complete, because it allows you to customize much more than simple two-setup from Sony.
Our preference was to leave dejudder Off to the movies, and we appreciated the fact that when we are assured that the KDL-46V5100 well run 1080p/24 sources. Our test of choice in this capacity, the shot moving over the deck of the Intrepid from
"I Am Legend",revealed that Sony kept the pace of the film appropriately, while the Panasonic and JVC, for example, presented Motion coupling characteristic 2: 3 down.
The KDL-46V5100, but not enough to resolve every detail of 1080i and 1080p still of resolution sources, not the height of vertical resolution a bit of format according to our test models. Uniformity: The KDL-V5100 has been slower, even through the screen we would see, and outlines the general uniformity worse than most other LCD display, we except
KDL-XBR9, which was about its similar. The side appeared brighter than the rest of the screen, and top left is even lighting, especially in black and very dark scenes, such as dark warehouse. Viewed from the angle of the screen faded to about average compared to other LCDs, and there was no discoloration evident that we have seen the JVC.
Standard Definition: The KDL-46V5100 transformed into an average performance in standard definition. The Sony resolved every detail of a DVD source and details of the grass and stone bridge appears as strong as we expected. With video sources function that we saw more jagged edges on motion diagonal lines than other screens, but not as much as
KDL-XBR9 -- Although the American flag waving seemed about the same on both screens for Sony. The KDL-46V5100s noise reduction very good results, clean snow, noisy shots of sky and sunsets with aplomb, Although the option of MPEG noise reduction does not appear to do much in these areas. setup in CineMotion Auto1 committed 2:3pull down to remove moire forums.
